Karbala is a powerful paradigm that reveals the best form of human virtue towards the religion Islam. It has a stir of justice and spirituality, the heartbreaking tale of injustice and the painful narrative of faith attached to it that makes this particular event graved in the hearts and minds of countless millions all over the world.
Karbala is considered as Baqa-e-Deen, the protector of Islam. The great sacrifice of Imam Hussain a.s in the battle of Karbala can never be compared with any deed till the Doomsday and thereafter. The noble sacrifice spreads a message to all corners of the world that nothing can be more precious than the religion and truth in this world. Imam Hussain a.s not only sacrificed his life but gave his children and friends also in the name of Allah the almighty. Even though he was finally massacred in battle, he and his most loyal companions were victorious. They set the true example of love towards the religion and gave their lives in protection of it. It is also explained that Islam is reborn after every Karbala.
In the great Battle of Karbala, Imam Hussain a.s along with his family and relatives bravely fought the huge force of Yazid. Yazid was a Cruel, characterless and egoist ruler who was trying to destroy and end the religion Islamic and its teachings of truth. He did not accept God as the almighty and the creator and also tried to make Imam Hussain to accept his view. But Imam Hussain a.s preferred getting killed along with his family, children and colleagues, rather than accepting Yazid as Muslim ruler of Islam. He clearly denied the ways and principles set by the unworthy Yazid and protected Islam form his evil perceptions. It was his sacrifice that sets the true Islamic teachings of peace, justice and acceptance to belief that God exists. Indeed, the martyrdom of Imam Hussain a.s is the symbol of the victory of Islam today.
The mournings of that day however have a deeper spiritual significance associated with it. The 10th day of Muharam is the day of Ashura that is marked as the death of Imam Hussain ibne Ali a.s. On this occasion Shia Muslims all over the world weep in protest of the death of their Imam and take out rallies. They also conduct Majlis, a religious meeting to discuss the tragedies of the Battle of Karbala and to mourn for the deaths of innocents. Such events have usually been universal, appealing to people of all creeds. There is a transcendental resonance about this event in Islamic history.

Certainly, Karbala is the true essence of truth and sacrifice in the universe and the true protector of religion Islam. In honor of this holistic place every year millions of pilgrims visit here to pay ziyarat to the Imam Hussain shrine in Iraq.
