In line with promoting ethics, integrity and best practices in education, Exams Ethics International, a non-governmental organisation with the objective of creating awareness on examination malpractices, has launched the 2012 Exams Ethics Marshals International Conference and Awards in Accra.

The conference, to be held in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service from December 10 ? 14, 2012, is on the theme ?Imperative Leadership, Management and Administrative Best Practices for Educational MDA?s and Institutions to rank among the best in the World?.

It is expected to bring together heads of institutions and departments, university professors, directors of education, examination officers and teacher associations from Ghana and Nigeria to deliberate on how to manage the educational systems, with particular reference to examination.

Kofi Ashiboe-Mensah, country director of Exams Ethics International, said the conference was crucial and timely, considering the increased number of students in both private and public universities as well as the pending 2013 WASCE exams.

He said, ?Concrete measures must be put in place, in structure and content, to ensure the delivery of quality education at all levels of the educational system in the country.?

Ashiboe-Mensah said the conference would, among other things, inform stakeholders about the need to eradicate examination malpractices from the educational system as well as bring together Nigerians and their Ghanaian counterparts to share experiences that would impact on their performance.

He also called for parents and teachers to help the children study so as to be prepared for the exams in order to avoid cheating during examinations.

?The children must be taught how to manage their time and study for the exams so when the time comes they will have the confidence to write without cheating,? he said.

Professor Anthony Panin, council chairman of Kadosh College of Management and dean of the Faculty of Economics, Central University College, in his address, said ethical and moral values could be transmitted to the youth only through effective education.

He stated, ?It is the belief of the organisation that unless education is effectively used as an instrument for forging and transmitting ethical values to the youth, all other efforts at promoting ethical and moral values, leadership development and good governance will come to naught.?

He was therefore hopeful the noble cause of the organization would be achieved.

Personalities, institutions and organizations will also be honoured at the conference for their support towards the initiative of Exams Ethics International.
